On Monday for the Chinese New Year, Nick and I trekked through the cemetery above the village he’s studying here to observe the tradition of paying respects to elders and the departed. There was so much traffic that we got off the bus about a .5 km away from the cemetery entrance. Every ten feet along the road, vendors were selling  chrysanthemums along with paper money, houses, cars, and even cell phones and mahjong sets to burn in remembrance. We even found USD! Apparently, “THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER.” More in the album.
