Chinese New Year’s Eve as witnessed from our balcony in Shapingba. Despite restrictions prohibiting the use of combustibles in densely populated areas (like our neighborhood) there were huge DIY fireworks displays all over Shapingba last night. They were going off and on all night once the sun went down, but the best of the show happened between 11:30 and 12:30 to ring in the new year. This image captures just how close to the building these were being set off from the courtyard. More in the album.
